Qualifications
Qualifications
During clinical training, I was employed at the Children's Service Center of Riverside where I worked with children and youth. I was also employed at the Corona Vet Center, working with combat veterans and their families coping with posttraumatic stress disorder and associated issues.
While working at Inland Southern California Psychotherapy Association, I worked with violent offenders through the Riverside Probation Dept. offering psycho-education in parenting, anger management, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and child abuse (victims as well as perpetrators).
I was a volunteer for the City of Corona's Trauma Intervention Program, and provided a Licensed Family Foster Home from 1997 through 2019. After adopting several children, and providing legal guardianship for several more, our total reached 11 children. This experience has been invaluable in my private practice.
I have an extensive background in blended families, foster care and adoption, as well as parenting and anger management. I am comprehensively experienced in working with special needs children such as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Spina Bifida, etc., along with accompanying parenting challenges, and coordinating with school systems for maximum student success.
I have worked with individuals, children, adolescents, couples, families, and groups, and have over 40 years of parenting practice. I work with children as young as 3 years old, providing therapy in a nurturing, supportive environment while establishing appropriate boundaries, discipline, and positive parenting techniques for parents.
My background with combat veterans has yielded strong anger management skills and coping strategies with stress, anxiety, PTSD, and faulty cognitive processing, providing relief from resultant angry thoughts, feelings, and outbursts.
My experience with domestic violence offenders, child abuse perpetrators, and sex offenders has provided great insight into assisting individuals in breaking the cycles of violence as well as working with the victims to empower and assist them in the behavior changing process.
My work with the Trauma Intervention Program of the City of Corona has built my competence and skill in working with individuals dealing with trauma, death, and grief. Overall I incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy with a family systems approach, while utilizing other modalities as indicated such as play and art therapy along with solution focused and insight oriented therapies.
